State withdraws proposed Tybee Island US 80 changes

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) — After months of feedback from residents and visitors, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced their decision on the proposed project to change Highway 80 Tuesday.

GDOT has decided to withdraw the proposed project from further consideration, a spokesperson said April 28. This decision comes after residents and visitors attended a December 2025 meeting to provide their thoughts on the proposed changes.

Following the community input, the Tybee City Council released a new resolution on January 8, 2026. The resolution, No. 2026-01, expressed the city’s opinion on the proposed project.
