Chatham Area Transit facing lawsuit over safety policies and procedures

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — Chatham Area Transit (CAT) and one of its operators is facing a lawsuit following the death of a passenger in 2024.

The attorney for James Ancrum Sr.’s family, Alex Mayfield, told WSAV that CAT’s policies and procedures for medical emergencies contributed to his death.

According to CAT, operators are required to call CAT dispatch first when there’s an emergency on their vehicles. Dispatch then determines how severe the situation is and what the response should be…
