Mayor’s Memo: Hardeeville learns from Brunswick’s downtown success

In my last article, I wrote about the city’s goal to revitalize our historic downtown corridor-Whyte Hardee Boulevard. This commercial stretch, which runs parallel to I95 between exits 5 and 8, is where Hardeeville was first incorporated in 1916, where we want to remember our roots, and keep that small town sense of place.

Last month we took some steps toward that goal. First, the city council invited the Director of “SCADpro” to a workshop and present a student program that can help us create a “Brand”. Mr. Gilbert explained that SCAD students are chosen by professors to embark on a 10-week project “in which students will work under the guidance of Hardeeville to assist in the research and development of a comprehensive brand identity”. The result will be a new logo and slogan, and an integrated campaign strategy.

It is our intention that this initiative will help all our residents, new and old, identify with their hometown, create a sense of civic pride and attract investors to help us build our downtown into a thriving commercial district…
