PHOENIX (AZFamily) — While many residents stay indoors during extreme heat days, outdoor workers — including roofers — have no choice but to work through some of the hottest conditions of the year.
Roofing companies say that when air temperatures reach 110 degrees, the surface temperature of roofing materials can climb far higher.
‘Getting baked up there’
“If it’s 110 degrees out there, it probably– a concrete tile is probably somewhere around 140 to 160 degrees,” said Thony Moussa of Power Peak Roofing. “So, yeah. The guys are getting baked up there.”
Moussa said workers are supplied with water, cold towels and electrolytes. They also have to come down every couple of hours to cool off.
