Maricopa County official says recorder’s mail ballot claims reflect ‘pattern’ of failing to tell truth

Maricopa County Supervisor Thomas Galvin said Recorder Justin Heap “has a pattern of not telling the truth” after Heap’s warning about mail ballot delays was refuted by the U.S. Postal Service.

Heap told the Board of Supervisors during a Sept. 30 meeting to expect delays in the delivery of mail ballots because the USPS closed a central Phoenix facility.

“There is going to be somewhat of a delay in the mail going in and out,” Heap said. “That doesn’t have to do with our office. It has to do with the post office. Many people may not be aware, but the post office closed down their central facility in Phoenix a year ago, which means now everything is routed through San Diego. So that can add a few days to the mail.”
