Car, bus, truck crash in Mesa kills 1

A three-vehicle collision Saturday morning involving a Valley Metro bus just east of Gilbert Road and Southern Avenue left a car driver dead, Mesa police said.

The crash, which also included a truck, occurred about 5:40 a.m. March 9 in the westbound lanes of Southern, according to a release from the Mesa Police Department.

There were no injuries to anyone in the truck and bus. The driver of the car was trapped inside the vehicle and, after being extricated, was pronounced dead, police said.

Preliminary information shows that the driver of the car was traveling east and crossed the center line into westbound traffic colliding with the bus first and then spinning and colliding with the truck, police said.

The name of the driver has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
