Scottsdale police investigate vandalism of Kari Lake, other, campaign signs

Scottsdale police are investigating an incident where a person was caught on camera defacing various political signs.

Police shared a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying a person with a bicycle was walking by Hayden Road and Sweetwater Avenue on Sept. 29 at around 4:30 a.m. along with surveillance video showing a person appearing to cut up several signs.

One of the damaged signs was for Kari Lake’s senate campaign while another was for Matt Gress, who is running for Arizona House District 4 as a Republican.

Police noted that defacing a political sign is a crime and asked the public to contact investigators at 480-312-TIPS if they have any information regarding the incident.

A campaign spokesperson for Lake blamed Rep. Ruben Gallego and The Arizona Republic for the sign defacer’s actions.

“Both Ruben Gallego and his Pravda Paper, The Arizona Repugnant, are responsible for a lot of the hate-filled rhetoric that drives people to do this,” the campaign said in a statement on Oct. 6. “But it doesn’t phase us. Kari and the entire AZGOP ticket will continue to spread our common-sense message.”
