The battle over more stringent heat-related restrictions on Phoenix mountain and preserve trails continued Feb. 27 before the Phoenix Parks Board amid a barrage of scientific and other data from both sides.
Later this month, the board will decide whether to begin closures at 7 a.m. rather than 8 a.m. and – more significantly – whether base closures on a specific temperature forecast rather than wait for the National Weather Service to issue an excessive Heat Warning.
But unlike last October, when the board directed city staff to formally present the new closure guidelines for its consideration, opponents praised the board…
