Mesa may leash rampant data center growth

With 15 data centers built, approved or proposed the past six years in Mesa, the city is looking at development standards and limiting where they can be built in an effort to save land for other industries that generate more jobs.

The Planning and Zoning Board is scheduled Wednesday, June 25, to consider the proposed text amendments for a recommendation to council. The board postponed acting on the ordinance at the June 11 meeting following push back from industry representatives.

“We truly appreciate the city’s initiative to proactively address data center development through this proposed text amendment,” said Jay Irvin of the Butler Design Group at the meeting earlier this month…
