2 hikers rescued from Phoenix mountain trails for heat exhaustion

PHOENIX — While meteorological summer ends on Sunday, temperatures are still above triple digits and causing problems on Valley trails.

Two hikers suffering from heat exhaustion had to be rescued by firefighters on Camelback Mountain and South Mountain, respectively, on Saturday.

Both rescues occurred at 9:30 a.m. when temperatures were 93 degrees, showing that heat-related dangers can present themselves well before the hottest time of the day.
