TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — The Kyrene Elementary School District voted Tuesday to reduce the number of schools in its district to help with financial trouble and declining enrollment.
The Governing Board approved a plan to close six schools, calling it its “4-2″ plan. The elementary schools that will close starting in 2026-2027 are:
- Kyrene de la Colina
- Kyrene de la Estrella
- Kyrene de las Manitas
The three schools closing in 2027-2028 are:
- Kyrene Traditional Academy
- Kyrene Akimel A-al Middle School
- Kyrene del Pueblo Middle School
This model saves two elementary schools: Kyrene del Milenio, a proposed gifted academy, and Kyrene de la Mariposa.
