Driver charged after SUV crashes into block wall in Mesa, killing passenger

MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — An East Valley driver is charged after a violent wreck left his passenger dead in Mesa earlier this year.

On Tuesday, Mesa police arrested Isaiah Torres, 22, after a grand jury indicted him for second-degree murder stemming from the deadly collision.

Around 7:20 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, Mesa police officers were called to the single-vehicle crash near Val Vista Drive and Pueblo Avenue, south of Broadway Road. Police say Torres was driving a Kia Sorrento when he collided with a cinder block wall, sending pieces of debris into a homeowner’s window.

Torres and his passenger, identified as 21-year-old Marcella Manuel, were rushed to the hospital. Manuel later died from her injuries…
