Family sues Glendale after officer mistakenly shoots, kills unarmed man

GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — The family of a man mistakenly identified as a domestic violence suspect, leading to an officer shooting and killing him, has filed a lawsuit against the city and the officers involved.

Romanucci & Blandin, the law firm representing the family of 46-year-old Dillon Siebeck, announced that the family is seeking damages against Ofc. Juan Gonzales, Sgt. Joshua Anderkin and the city for his death.

On Jan. 8, 2025, Glendale police received information that a 23-year-old Angelo Diaz had threatened and pointed a gun at his ex-girlfriend. The woman gave police a description of Diaz’s pickup truck, and officers tracked it to Horizon Park, near 47th Avenue and Diana Avenue.

Ofc. Gonzales and Sgt. Anderkin arrived at the park and spotted the truck, but couldn’t see inside because of the dark-tinted windows. That’s when they reportedly saw Siebeck sitting underneath a gazebo. Thinking he was the suspect, they told Siebeck to raise his hands…
