Valley family fights for a proper Jewish burial

PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. — It is said in the Jewish religion, “life is a journey and death a destination.”

It’s true. Like it or not, and for all of you reading this, hopefully not for a long time… but we are all headed to that ultimate destination.

I’ve had to bury both of my parents. Each time after traditional prayers were recited, the casket was lowered into the ground, and as is custom, each family member threw a shovel full of dirt into the grave. It is part of Jewish law that all present watch as the coffin is lowered and then throw dirt so that the soul can finally rest…
