Church, civic leaders urge Mesa to spare hotel

Clergy and civic leaders last week called on Mesa not to pull the plug on Sunaire.

The city purchased the hotel and is finishing renovations this month for an emergency homeless shelter for families with young children, domestic abuse survivors, veterans and seniors.

Mesa originally intended to move its Off the Streets Program offering shelter and support services out of leased rooms at the Windemere Hotel to Sunaire this summer…
