Re-sized data center in Mesa sails to approval

EdgeCore will build a much smaller data center totaling 1.2 million square feet in southeast Mesa after cutting its original plan almost by half.

The Planning and Zoning Board last week on consent agenda granted the applicant’s request to scale back the project by 800,000 square feet to accommodate SRP’s need for expanded energy infrastructure. The utility’s substation is located in the rear of the site.

When the board originally approved the site plan in 2024, EdgeCore proposed three 95-foot-tall data center buildings with a footprint of 2.1 million square feet. The project covers the northern half of a roughly 90-acre site owned by EdgeCore.

“The applicant did identify property owners within 750 feet, HOAs in registered neighborhoods,” planner Chloe Durfee Daniel said at the March 11 study session before the regular meeting. “No comments were received from neighboring property owners.”…
