TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — Officials say a crescent moon, built by students to celebrate Ramadan, was found destroyed on a Tempe mountain this week.

The City of Tempe says a student group designed and built a 15-foot-tall crescent moon to shine atop A Mountain during Ramadan, a holiday observed by Muslims as a month of fasting, prayer and study of the Quran. The crescent moon serves as a key symbol of Ramadan, representing spiritual renewal, prayer and reflection.
