Hot weather coming in Seattle area as 2026 World Cup games open

Seattle could welcome two major events to town in the next weeks: the 2026 FIFA World Cup and some of the warmest temperatures of the year.

High temperatures could be headed to Western Washington later this week, according to the National Weather Service. Tuesday could see a thunderstorm across the region and there’s a moderate risk of “extreme heat” forecasted for early next week. Seattle’s first World Cup game on June 15 (Belgium vs. Egypt) could see some of those higher temperatures.

Last month, a NOAA temperature outlook predicted above-average temperatures were likely throughout Washington. The state has already seen a few 80-degree days and more could be on the way.
