Seattle Social Housing aims to ‘be in every district’ with goal of 1,670 units in 5 years

SEATTLE — The Seattle Social Housing Developer plans to expand into every City Council district, telling officials it aims to establish 1,670 housing units over the next five years.

Mike Eliason, director of design and policy for the Seattle Social Housing Developer (SSHD), the public agency tasked with acquiring and building publicly owned housing, briefed the Seattle Planning Commission last week on the agency’s progress after it announced the purchase of its first property in Belltown near Pike Place Market.

“Next steps for our new construction: We’re currently looking at several projects around the city,” Eliason said. “Our goal is to be in every district. We don’t want to be concentrated in any one neighborhood. We’re going to be spread out around the city, and so we’re kind of looking all over the place right now.”…
