An evening at a popular North Seattle playground took a frightening turn Monday when neighbors in the Laurelhurst and Bryant area reported a burst of gunfire near Pathways Park, sending police racing to the scene and rattling a usually quiet pocket of the city.
The call came in just before 9 p.m. Officers arriving at Pathways Park, along Mithun Place NE, found multiple shell casings scattered across the play area, according to FOX 13 Seattle. Neighbors told reporters they heard a rapid series of shots cutting through the evening air. Police said there were no immediate reports of injuries or arrests, and the investigation remained active late into the night as officers secured the playground and canvassed for witnesses.

Pathways Park is a recently opened inclusive playground in northeast Seattle, built to welcome children and families of all abilities. The park, which opened in June 2024 near the Burke-Gilman Village, was developed with community input and features accessibility-focused design elements, according to the Seattle Parks Foundation.
