A welfare check in Tukwila last Saturday found a woman and two small children sleeping inside their vehicle, a situation police later tied to a recent domestic-violence assault and the family having nowhere else to go. Within days, a detective, mental-health professionals and a community assistance program had helped secure a hotel room for the family through the weekend while longer-term housing help was pursued.
The Tukwila Police Department said in a Facebook update Friday that Detective Kim conducted the welfare check after a 911 caller reported the family sleeping in a vehicle in the 200 block of Andover Park E. The department said the family had been living out of the car because they had nowhere else to turn.
Short-Term Hotel Room Buys The Family Time
Kim then worked with mental-health professionals Fisk and Smith to obtain the hotel room, according to the department’s account of the response.
