Hoquiam Chase Hits 100 MPH, Ends With Woman Dragged, School Ramp Smashed

A 32-year-old Port Orchard man is facing a stack of felony charges after Hoquiam police say he assaulted a woman, dragged her behind a building, and then led officers on a chase that topped 100 mph through city streets before crashing his Chevrolet Impala into a dumpster and a school wheelchair ramp.

The chain of events began when a caller reported that a male subject had assaulted a female and pushed her into a Chevrolet Impala, according to The Daily World. When Sgt. Dennis Luce arrived, he reportedly observed the male suspect dragging the female behind a building. The suspect let go of the woman and fled on foot as soon as he saw the sergeant, per the outlet’s account. The victim did not require hospitalization, the report noted.

Officer Grove pursued the suspect for several blocks on foot, and two Aberdeen Police Department officers joined the chase to help track him down. He was ultimately taken into custody without the use of force, the station’s report states.

While that foot pursuit was unfolding, a separate reckless-driving complaint was coming in tied to the same vehicle. Hoquiam officers observed the Chevrolet Impala traveling eastbound on West Emerson Avenue at speeds exceeding 80 mph, in a corridor where the posted limit is just 30 mph, per the same account. Another caller reported the Impala continuing southbound at a high rate of speed, and police were separately advised of a Chevrolet Impala being driven recklessly southbound on State Route 109 near the Hoquiam city limits…
