Seattle Police on Wednesday released text messages of their response to the Bite of Seattle shooting at Seattle Center on July 26.
“I don’t know who is in charge but someone needs to assume command,” read a 6:50 p.m. text from then-Police Chief Shon Barnes, who was out of town. Within a minute, Assistant Chief Tyrone Davis responded that he was in charge.
The text messages depict confusion over who was leading the department at the time and whether a press conference about the shooting had gotten underway. The messages also point to delays in addressing the public due to Mayor Katie Wilson and Gov. Bob Ferguson not yet being on the scene…
