The Foothills Trail has a little something for everyone, whether you’re a first-time cyclist looking for an easy-to-navigate paved path or an experienced biker pushing to go the distance.
The Foothills Trail spans 22 miles, stretching through Eastern Puyallup, Orting, Buckley, Wilkeson, and Carbonado. The route is mostly level throughout since it sits atop a historic railroad bed originally constructed by the Northern Pacific Railroad Company in 1864.
“The Foothills Trail is very approachable,” Breanna Fokes, executive director of The Foothills Rails to Trails Coalition, told South Sound. “Much of it follows a former rail corridor, so the grades are generally gentle; however, riders should still come prepared. Bring water, check the weather, plan your food and water stops, and be aware that some stretches are more rural with several miles between services.”…
