Docs: Men broke in to Jimmy D’s Bar and Grill in Gorst through ceiling, stole ATM, cash

Investigators linked a Port Orchard man to a break-in in which he and another man broke into Jimmy D’s Bar and Grill in Gorst last year and stole cash and an ATM, using surveillance video, cell phone data and DNA he left on gloves that were found at the scene, according to court documents.

Prosecutors charged Joshua Martin Troy Peterson, 29, with a count of second-degree burglary and a count of second-degree theft in Kitsap County Superior Court last week. In an initial court appearance, Peterson pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In the burglary at Jimmy D’s Bar and Grill, which occurred at about 4:30 a.m. on April 11, 2023, and was recorded by surveillance cameras, two men broke into the building by cutting through an exterior wall, entering into a space above a ceiling, cutting through the ceiling and then dropping down into the business next to an ATM, a Kitsap County sheriff’s detective wrote in a report.

The two men then used a saw to cut the ATM away from a wall and loaded it up into a pickup driven by a third person. Surveillance video showed the suspects using what appeared to be a white Ford F-150 or F-250 and showed one of the men talking on the phone twice, according to court documents. The group left with $500 in cash, and the ATM, which contained an additional $600, the detective wrote.
