According to a new report by Fast Company, workers for Starbucks began a five-day strike today. The workers are going on strike due to the “lack of progress in contract negotiations with the company”.
The strikes will take place in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle – where Starbucks headquarters is located. According to the report, the strikes could spread to other cities in the coming days. Starbucks Workers United, a union that oversees workers at 535 company-owned Starbucks locations, said that the company failed to fulfill its promise in February of reaching a labor agreement.
Lynne Fox, the president of Workers United, released a statement saying, “Union baristas know their value, and they’re not going to accept a proposal that doesn’t treat them as true partners”. Starbucks has roughly 10,000 company-owned stores nationwide.
