Three teens arrested after trying to break into gun shop, carjacking Uber driver

Three teens were arrested Tuesday morning in Sumner after police say they tried to break into a gun shop, carjacked an Uber driver, and led several departments on a chase through multiple cities.

It all started at Brad’s Guns in Lake Tapps. Sumner police were headed to help Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies at the store around 1 a.m. after hearing there was a burglary in progress.

However, the officers were rerouted to a call from a rideshare driver on Parker Road East and Main Street East. The driver told police that his Ford Escape was stolen at gunpoint after he was boxed in by three Hyundais.

Officers found two of the Hyundais abandoned nearby with the engines still running. After running the plates, they learned the cars were stolen from an apartment complex in Sumner.

Puyallup police found the third Hyundai and chased it to Tacoma where, with help from other agencies, arrested a 17-year-old boy from Kent and a 15-year-old girl from Federal Way. Both teens were booked into Remann Hall. Police say the Hyundai had been stolen from Kent.
