Kent approves ‘Stay Out of Drug Areas,’ prohibiting offenders from entering parts of city

KENT, Wash. — The Kent City Council has unanimously approved an ordinance establishing “Stay Out of Drug Areas” (SODA) within the city. These zones prohibit offenders from entering if they’ve committed a drug-related crime.

Ordinance No. 4514 was voted in on Tuesday night, with all six council members present voting in favor of the ordinance.

With its passing, Kent judges can now order offenders to stay out of three specific areas, violators facing a possible gross misdemeanor penalty: up to one year in jail and a $5,000 fine…
