Seattle hit-and-run victim had pieces of skull removed, prosecutors say

SEATTLE — A suspect has been charged in a Seattle hit-and-run that forced the victim to have two portions of her skull removed.

Andres Cabrera is accused of striking a woman while she was walking in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of South McClellan Street and Beacon Avenue South with his car just before 7:30 a.m. on April 14. The victim, a 32-year-old woman, was transported to Harborview Medical Center and suffered a fracture in her upper neck in addition to the partial skull removal, charging documents say. The woman was thrown up in the air by the collision with Cabrera’s car, and he continued driving off as she lay motionless in the roadway, prosecutors say.

A witness’ dashcam video captured the license plate of the involved vehicle, which was tracked to an address on Beacon Avenue South. Cabrera, 65, met with police and told officers he thought someone had thrown coffee at his vehicle so he kept driving, according to court documents.
