Federal Way renames Alderbrook Park ahead of this year’s Juneteenth National Holiday

Alderbrook Park in Federal Way has officially been renamed to Conna Park to coincide with this year’s observance of the Juneteenth National Holiday.

The park’s renaming comes more than 150 years after John Conna broke free from slavery in Texas and traveled to the Pacific Northwest with his wife, Mary Conna, according to the City of Federal Way.

The Federal Way City Council unanimously passed a proposal by Mayor Bruce Ferrell to rename Alderbrook Park to Conna Park, in honor of John and Mary Conna.
