Copper Wire Theft Shuts Down 2 Line Light Rail

Light rail service on Sound Transit’s 2 Line was down for most of the day on Saturday, June 21, due to a copper wire theft near Wilburton Station, as first reported by The Seattle Times.

According to a Sound Transit spokesperson, the wire was stolen around 2 a.m. Saturday. As a result, the 2 Line was unable to begin its scheduled morning service. While the line was shut down, buses replaced train service for riders along the route.

Repair crews worked throughout the day to address the issue, and service was restored by 2:40 p.m. after the missing cable was replaced…
