SEATTLE — The city of Carnation is claiming the Tolt River Dam’s early warning sirens, operated by the city of Seattle, have been out of commission for more than a year, endangering the small King County city in the event of catastrophic floods like those seen in Texas.
In a blistering press release on Friday, Carnation’s deputy mayor accused Seattle Public Utilities of failing to provide a reliable warning for a Tolt Dam failure for five years now, and that it shut down the sirens altogether in 2024 after multiple malfunctions.
