Last month, an unusual incident occurred during a routine traffic stop that led to more than just a citation. According to Pierce County Sheriff’s Department blotter, University Place deputies pulled over a man on the evening of June 26 for driving a vehicle with expired temporary tags and missing its front plate. During the stop, on Bridgeport Way W and Custer Road W, it was revealed that driver lacked a valid license and attempted to spin a yarn about his living situation.
The scene took a turn when deputies discovered that the man had an outstanding domestic violence warrant. When they requested he exit the vehicle, the suspect bolted towards a nearby house which, contrary to his earlier claims of homelessness, turned out to be his residence. The Lakewood Police swiftly apprehended the suspect before he could enter the premises.
However, the man wasn’t ready to concede defeat. In a last-ditch attempt to avoid arrest, he feigned having a seizure— a ploy not unusual among those seeking to evade jail time. The officers, maintaining their duty of care, called in medical personnel to evaluate the suspect’s condition. Firefighters responding on the scene assessed the individual and confirmed that he had not, in fact, experienced a real seizure. “It is not uncommon for suspects to fake seizures when they don’t want to go to jail, but to always be safe, Fire was called to assess the suspect and make sure he was ok,” noted the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department…
