Man sentenced for January 2023 Auburn murder

A Seattle man was sentenced to nearly 16 years in prison following a January 2023 murder where an 18-year-old man was fatally shot in Auburn.

On July 25, Usaamah Ibnhamzah Parker, 22, was sentenced to a total of 189 months in prison for second-degree murder after he was initially charged with first-degree murder. These charges stem from a Jan. 12, 2023, incident at the Coppergate Apartments in Auburn when Jay Justin Andrew, 18, was found lying in the road, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and neck.

According to charging documents, a woman who was a witness to the incident identified Parker as being one of two shooters in the incident. Video footage showed a man wearing the same clothes as him running away from the scene, and when arrested, Parker identified himself as having shot at Andrew once. Parker’s codefendant, William-Key’Juanze J. Rhymer, was also identified as being a shooter by another witness, and a search of his car corroborated the incident, according to documents.
