Neighbors want to know future of Rizal Park after fence abruptly put up, taken down

SEATTLE — When a fence appeared around Dr. Jose Rizal Park in Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood last week, neighbors figured the city was trying the same tactic it recently used to close three parks with a history of safety issues.

But as quickly as the fence went up, it was taken down.

“Within 12 hours, the fence was gone,” said Craig Thompson, who lives near the park. “We’ve just closed three other parks in this city – this is a real opportunity for the city to reach out to these communities to our neighborhoods and make a difference.”…
