Cautionary Tale: The SeaTac Uber Impersonation Scam

A recent incident involving an Uber scam at SeaTac has raised concerns about rider safety. A social media user shared their experience of falling victim to a scam where they were picked up by a driver who was not the one assigned to them by the Uber app. The victim had booked a ride home at 6 am and was supposed to be picked up by a driver named Sam in a black Tesla Y. However, another driver in a similar car waved them over and falsely claimed to be Sam. The victim got into the car, only to realize that the driver was not asking for a pin, which is a standard procedure for Uber rides. The driver then drove in the opposite direction of the victim’s destination and tried to bargain for money through Venmo. The victim was eventually let off on the highway and had to book another Uber ride. The incident has highlighted the importance of verifying the Uber code before entering the vehicle.
