Firefighters tackle underground vault blaze in Seattle’s Central District, no injuries

SEATTLE — Fire crews responded Friday to reports of an underground vault fire near 29th Avenue and East Cherry Street in Seattle’s Central District.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from a 3-foot-by-3-foot manhole, according to the Seattle Fire Department. The department’s Energy Response team was called to assist, and crews restricted access to the area as a safety precaution.
