Governor Bob Ferguson gives update on flood response after federal emergency declaration

TUKWILA, Wash. — With flooding expected to continue into early next week, Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson gave an update on the state’s efforts to respond to the disaster now that a federal emergency has been declared.

Governor Bob Ferguson said he received word that the administration of President Donald Trump had approved a federal declaration of emergency related to the flooding in Washington State in the morning of December 12. The federal emergency declaration frees up national resources to supplement state resources for emergency response. The declaration also authorizes FEMA to coordinate all disaster relief efforts to alleviate the hardship caused by the flooding.

Speaking in the city of Tukwila, Governor Ferguson said there has been no reported loss of life in the first three days of the flooding. Ferguson said the Skagit and Cedar Rivers are facing historic flood levels. The Naches and Yakima Rivers are matching historic high levels…
