WSDOT crews work tirelessly to protect highways as western Washington braces for more rain

SEATTLE — Flood water is continuing to keep people from their homes and drivers off some major highways in western Washington. The aftermath of severe flooding has Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) crews working around the clock.

A few examples.

Hwy 410 east of Enumclaw

  • WSDOT posted pictures of where Boise Creek is threatening the road.
  • Crews put large rocks in place to create a jetty, redirecting the water away from the highway as best as possible.

Repair crews are also working on HWY 2.

  • Water, rocks and mud are over the road in many spots.
  • The highway would typically be jammed with people headed to Leavenworth to look at the Christmas lights this weekend, but the road is closed, and that event has been cancelled due to the flooding.

Drivers planning to travel can always check the WSDOT real-time map for updates on road closures and hazards…
