SEATTLE — It’s hard to imagine the heartbreak of losing almost everything in a flood, but that is just the start of the process of recovery.
King County has some reminders for people putting their lives and homes back together.
- First, you might need a permit to fix the damage to your home.
- Be sure to find out what permits your city requires.
- Also, you may need to get a floodplain development permit if you are in a special flood hazard area.
- Check if you need plumbing and gas piping permits and on-site sewage systems permits from Public Health – Seattle & King County.
- Electrical permits could also be required from Washington Labor & Industries.
If flood water got into hazardous waste on your property, King County says you should set those items aside in a safe spot until you can bring them to a disposal site.
