Tree removal paused after bald eagle spotted in Madison Park redwood

SEATTLE — A tree-cutting service backed down from removing a redwood in Seattle on Thursday after neighbors pointed out a bald eagle perched in its branches.

The property owner brought in the tree cutter after the city issued a permit to remove the redwood so he can put in a retaining wall and eventually build a home on the lot at 700 McGilvra Blvd E in the Madison Park neighborhood.

Bald eagles are no longer classified as an endangered species, but they are still federally protected…
