SEATTLE — The 2023 shooting death of a pregnant woman on her way to work in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood is again drawing attention to Washington’s “born alive” legal rule after the man charged in the case was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Eina Kwon, 34, was sitting in a car at a traffic light in Belltown with her husband, Sung Kwon, on the morning of June 13, 2023, when a man ran up to their car and opened fire on them with a handgun in a random attack. Kwon, eight months pregnant at the time, was killed, as was her unborn child. Sung Kwon was injured but survived.
