11-Year-Old Girl Pulled From West Seattle Water in Critical Condition

An 11-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being rescued from the water in West Seattle early Friday morning. Seattle Fire Department crews responded to a water rescue call around 12:30 a.m. in the 3400 block of Chelan Avenue Southwest, and what they found there kicked off a race against the clock.

The Rescue

Firefighters on Rescue Boat 5 pulled the girl out of the water just offshore of Chelan Avenue Southwest after she was reported in distress. Once crews had her on the boat, they transported her to additional units waiting at Fire Station 5. From there, she was rushed to a hospital for emergency care. The Seattle Fire Department confirmed the girl is in serious condition as of now.

A Troubling Pattern in the Region

This incident isn’t an isolated event in our area. Just last week, Mason County deputies responded to another water emergency when an SUV plunged into an icy lake. Deputies rescued a woman and two children from that vehicle. All three were transported to a hospital, though their conditions were not released publicly. It’s a stark reminder that water emergencies can strike fast and unpredictably across the Pacific Northwest, and quick response from first responders can mean the difference between life and death.

Our thoughts are with this young girl and her family as she receives care. We’re grateful for the Seattle Fire Department crews who responded instantly to get her out of the water and on the path to recovery.
