Bellevue tax preparer convicted after scheme that cost IRS more than $420,000

SEATTLE — A Bellevue, Washington, tax preparer who built a client base among tech workers was convicted of assisting in the creation of false tax returns, federal prosecutors said.

Thanjavur Manavalan, 65, owner of Mano Accounting Services, was found guilty of three counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation and presentation of false tax returns following an eight-day jury trial, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington. Jurors deliberated for about two days before reaching their verdict. Sentencing is scheduled for July 15, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Lauren King.

According to prosecutors, Manavalan falsified multiple elements on clients’ tax filings, including charitable donations, investment figures, business losses, rental income, and private loans.
