SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Shreveport Fire Station 20 is back open after a three-year closure, following extensive testing that cleared the facility of health and safety concerns.
Mayor Tom Arceneaux and Shreveport Fire Chief Clarence Reese Jr. joined firefighters Tuesday for a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the reopening.
Chief cites importance to surrounding community
For Chief Reese, the station’s return carries personal significance. The area served by Station 20 includes several nursing homes — one of which houses his own mother.
“This is an area of town that we have quite a few nursing homes, and as a matter of fact, my mother is in one of those nursing homes in this area,” Reese said. “So getting care to a lot of the citizens in a timely fashion is very important to the Shreveport Fire Department. It’s very important to our rating, and again, important to our citizens and our visitors.”…
