Crime numbers in Shreveport are still showing some improvement, but there are some areas that show higher numbers. Police Chief Wayne Smith gave the City Council an update on crime this week. The chief says one of our big problems has to do with car crashes and fatalities.
Year to Date Crashes
Traffic crashes have shown a steady upward trend over the past three years. In 2024, the year-to-date total stood at 6,143 reported crashes. That figure rose by about 5% in 2025 to 6,450 incidents, before climbing further to 6,613 crashes in 2026. Overall, this represents an approximate 7.6% increase in collision occurrences over the two-year period. These numbers have prompted SPD to run speed operations on our highways.
Year to Date Domestic Violence Calls for Service
This is an area of serious concern among local leaders. Calls for domestic violence incidents continue to jump. Calls are up significantly from 1,684 in 2024 to 1,884 in 2025—an increase of nearly 12%.
