SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Temperatures in the upper 90s and high humidity will bring another Heat Advisory today. We won’t have as much rain around as we did over the weekend, but we can’t rule out an isolated severe thunderstorm later in the day.
Labor Day morning will be the best time for outdoor activities as it will be in the 70s at sunrise. We will quickly warm into the 90s, with highs in the upper 90s to 100 degrees this afternoon. Calm winds will lead to a stagnant day with humidity pooling at the surface. This will push the heat index over 105 degrees between noon and 5 p.m. Continue to stay hydrated and limit your time in the afternoon heat.
A handful of afternoon storms are expected, especially in northwest Louisiana. Damaging wind can’t be ruled out, and there is a ‘Marginal Risk’ for severe weather across our parishes. While there won’t be many storms, the few that get going will pose this severe weather threat. If you are out at the lakes or recreation areas, be on alert for frequent lightning with any storms.
High pressure will remain centered near the ArkLaTex through Wednesday, keeping highs close to 100 degrees. The high may break down by the end of the week, allowing a weak front to pass through by Friday or Saturday. This may bring a few isolated storms and marginal relief, with highs dropping back into the low to mid 90s. It’s looking promising that we could see a more impactful front to wipe out the upper 90s heat for good next week.
