Historic downtown Shreveport apartment building changes hands, renovations coming soon

One of downtown Shreveport’s premier market-rate apartment buildings has sold to the same group that owns another downtown apartment building.

Mark Yates, an owner of 509 Standard LLC, closed Sept. 15 on the ten-story Standard at 509 Market Street. He paid $6.5 million for the 72-unit apartment building that was celebrated as Shreveport’s first skyscraper when it was built in 1911.

He said his first push will be to build out 15,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor. “Then, I think we’re going to do some upgrades to the interiors of the units, upgrade the fitness center and dog park and maybe put a business center in…just a few things like that over the next month.”…
