Rare PET scan machine at Shreveport research center helps country singer battling cancer

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – The Center for Molecular Imaging and Therapy, known as CMIT, is a research and clinical facility off Kings Highway in Shreveport. The center has a machine found in only a handful of medical facilities in the country that helps specialized patients.

Joshua Ray Walker, an up-and-coming country music singer from Dallas, was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. He needed a PET CT scan of his body but had a difficult time finding a machine designed to scan larger individuals. He tracked down CMIT in Shreveport.

“The facility is very clean new and nice. The team at CMIT they spent hours on the phone making sure the insurance company wa aware why I needed the scan. They also contacted my care team directly and made sure they had a meeting with the insurance company. I got it pushed through in time for me to get the scan and have it payed for,” Walker said.
