SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – It’s Mardi Gras season. And this year, the Highland parade will be honoring a child who passed away after a battle with a rare brain cancer. Emilie Gibson, who was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), dreamed of being a queen on a Mardi Gras float. She got her wish in 2017, riding on a Highland parade float dressed like a pirate with her older brother Alex.
